ComfortDelGro sets up fund to support Australian communities affected by bushfires

ComfortDelGro Corporation Australia (CDC), which has extensive operations in Australia, has established a fund of A$250,000 to assist employees and members of our community affected by the Australian bush fires.

Called the CDC We Care Fund, in line with our ethos of linking people, places and communities, the funding will be disbursed to communities across Australia affected by the bushfires to assist in fire-fighting efforts and support families with immediate housing and living needs. In addition, CDC employees who have had to evacuate and/or lose their homes as a result of the fires are eligible for individual grants to assist them to meet their short-term financial needs.

The Fund is being administered by ComfortDelGro Corporation Australia (CDC) which operates commuter, school and coach bus services and non-emergency patient transport in New South Wales and the ACT, Victoria, Northern Territory and Queensland, as well as taxi services in Western Australia and Victoria.

In addition to the We Care Fund, CDC also supports fire-fighting efforts by providing paid leave and transport services to emergency service volunteers, as well as offering employee assistance counselling services to staff affected by the fires and their families. We thank all employee volunteers for their brave service, especially as some of them, their families and communities are personally impacted by these fires.

ComfortDelGro Managing Director/Group CEO, Mr Yang Ban Seng, said: “We have been following closely the situation in Australia and are saddened by the tragic loss of life, both human and wildlife, as well as the impact on the environment. Having been operating in Australia since 2005, we are a part of the community and we could not watch idly. The CDC WeCare Fund is being set up not just for staff who have been affected, but for the many Australians who have lost their homes too.”

CDC CEO, Mr Nicholas Yap, added: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and communities who are affected by the bushfire crisis. At this difficult time, we are keen to do what we can to help the families in need. Our special thank you goes to the emergency services and those who put their own lives in danger to help communities in need.”
